PERSON OF THE YEAR

December 15th, 2009

A copy of the YCN Annual battled its way through the Christmas post and made it to my door this week. A few illustrators were asked to contribute a portrait of their Person of the Year. Mine pretty much is the person of any year, not just 2009. Of course, I chose Sir David Attenborough and drew him in a typical pose with a panda in a headlock.

A few one-off Christmas cards for YCN’s My Two Front Teeth, Christmas Shop at YCN, 72 Rivington Street. See bigger images of them over on my flickr account. There are a ton of great card designs by many many artists over at YCN.

BENCHMARK AWARDS

Endless Possibilities - Vet

On Tuesday Endless Possibilities, the book and promotional campaign I worked on with Blast for Conqueror Paper, was a winner at the Design Week Benchmark Awards. Congratulations to everyone involved. It was a really great project to be involved in, so it is particularly nice to see its success.

WINTER

November 27th, 2009

It’s tough drawing with cold hands so I took a break to try out a liquid chalk marker. I have to credit the wind for the fact that the snowman looks like he’s just been on a rampage kicking over chairs in the neighbour’s garden. I only wish I’d thought of that. This reminds me, a couple of my Christmas card designs are on sale at Soma and Red Door Gallery again this year. They’re printed on some lovely recycled stock which I’m 100% sure is the first thing you Grandma is concerned about when she gets your card in the post.

I’m not totally sure where my obsession with facial hair developed from. Probably best not to fight it.

FOOD ANTHEMS

November 19th, 2009

enRoute Magazine - Food Anthems

A short while ago I completed an illustration for enRoute magazine’s November issue. Being their food issue I was asked to illustrate a rock band with food based musicians to go along with an article about food-themed songs. I suggested a few alternative ideas and in the end we went with the tape/spaghetti illustration above.

A copy of the magazine just dropped through the letterbox and reminded me I was going to upload the roughs here. So here you go. There’s something about these food characters I still quite like…

MAYBE ONLY OF ANY INTEREST TO ME BUT…

November 10th, 2009

It seems there are some clearer photos of the Queen’s recent appearance on stage with the Eagles of Death Metal. Unfortunately for my brother this steals his crown for being the most famous person I’ve seen wearing the t-shirt and puts the random guy I spotted in Brixton right down the list into 3rd place.

There’s a healthy (or maybe frightening) amount of work to keep me busy this week but there are a few drawings I found that I want to post on here if i get the chance.
